Weightlifting training outside is the business. that is all

Saturday, March 24, 2012

Squat
Lunge
Hinge
Jump
Push
Pull
Brace
Rotate
Single leg stability

If your missing any of these in your training regardless of sport you are an ass. Yes I have been an ass for the last 5 years.....

learning number 14

The ability to hinge is crucial and when you lose this ability you will break soon.
Strength hurts, speed kills but both together you can do some serious damage...... This holds true for all sports especially weightlifting
I am an idiot....... I muscle snatch and snatch press/snatch balance and my snatch feels better but yet i stop doing them. Yes i am an idiot.
General physical preparation and movement efficiency is golden regardless of sport. For the sport of weightlifting this all becomes even more important. I must work on my general physical preparation............

learning number 8

you know more than you think you do you just need to have that lightbulb moment that lets you understand what is going on in your head.

Learning number 7

Realise there a lot smarter people than you. There will always be one person in a specific area that will know more than you. Your job is to find a way of getting as much knowledge from these people as you possibly can......

learning number 6

Get strong in the hinge pattern. Note I said hinge and not quarter squat with a forward lean.

learning number 5

If you run in your sport you better be strong on one leg.....

learning number 4

You can get away with poor movement or positions for a while..... but it will come back to bite you severely in the ass with a long term injury, decrease in performance or stagnation in your performance.

Learning number 3

There are certain patterns of movement that all athletes can benefit in being stronger in.

Squatting
Jumping
Hinging
Single leg stability
Upper body push
Upper body pull

If you want to be a serious athlete regardless of what sport you play you better get strong in these patterns. I have been a dope for the past number of years and forgot that as a weightlifter you are also an athlete. I have ignored 4/5 of these 6 patterns but alas I have learned my lesson.

Learning number 2

Strength is not sport specific (god i hate that phrase) it is pattern (task) specfic. Strength in particular patterns are relatively independent of each other. For your chosen/ event you must develop strength in the patterns that are key to your performance. What are the patterns that you must be strong in for your sport ? Thats a whole other baby........

And yes I know I didnt even tell you what strength was yet? Cant give away all the good stuff yet...... But lets just say if you think it can always be measured quantitatively you should prob read another blog as this stuff is going to get airy fairy...

The lightbulbs are going off in my head

Time to get the blog rolling again. I am going to post every day about my readings and learning from the past month.

Learning number 1
Get stronger then worry about everything else after. This is true for every sport and every event. What is stronger ???? Well thats where its get interesting and more complicated.... Which will have to wait til tomorrow.
