There are certain patterns of movement that all athletes can benefit in being stronger in.
Squatting
Jumping
Hinging
Single leg stability
Upper body push
Upper body pull
If you want to be a serious athlete regardless of what sport you play you better get strong in these patterns. I have been a dope for the past number of years and forgot that as a weightlifter you are also an athlete. I have ignored 4/5 of these 6 patterns but alas I have learned my lesson.
