the past few weeks i have been really analysing my own training other peoples training and various peoples opinons on training (sull, byrd, chicks, american jims stuff on the web, joh broz stuff, some interesting stuff i cam across with shane hamman on mark rippetoe website, the russian textbooks that i have been devouring again searching for some inspiration, youtube training videos that have put pay to many a productive day in college and many other sources) and what conclusion have i came to but only that i need to get stronger !!!
from everything i have read i really have come to the conclusion that i just have to keep concentrating on getting stronger in the squat, deadlift, presses and pulls ........ while still working on the full lifts and the powers. after nationals i will be really concentrating on getting stronger in the strength exercises.
another thing i have come to the conclusion on is i actually need to go lighter on my lighter days but do more reps per set i have started doing this during my last prep phase and it really paid off and its something i will enter back into immediately after the nationals. from this need of higher reps per set i will also be starting to include more combo lifts ie. power snatch ohead squat, power snatch and hang snatch, power clean fronts and jerks, front squat reps and jerks. i however will not be abandoning the most important stuff which is the snatch and clean and jerk on their own they will always make up a high percentage of my programming but for the next while i will be placing an empahsis on the other assistance type work.
another thing i have noticed from my soulsearching is that i also need to start including more snatch push press, snatch push press into overhead squat, power snatch overhead squat work, and generally spending more time with the bar overhead in the squat position.
the final adjustments to my training will be the inclusion of more pulls, powers, deadlifts and lifts from different positions from number hang at below knee. at knee, above knee and also the above positions from blocks. i feel that this variety in the starting position is essential to hit these right positions in the full lifts when these positions become stronger and hit more often and accurately i tend to hit these correct positions in the full lifts.
from the above adjustments that are to be made it is pretty obvious the variety in terms of exercise selection, volume and intensity will be huge this is what i have discovered that my body responds to, my mind enjoys as boredom is not even a possiblity and finally more importantly for a handsome drug free lifter like myself will keep me in one piece and less exposed to injury particulary knee injuries....
i am looking forward to next weekend at the nationals and seeing what gains i have made and importantly i am looking on building from this and taking my lifting up another level again and to do this i feel i have to get a lot stronger in the squat, pull/deadlift and presses.
